Interview: Videology's journey in camera innovation and roadmap to 2030

At Videology, innovation is more than a goal - it’s our legacy. Recently, our Global Sales Manager, Marc van den Heuvel, sat down with a leading European Business Magazine to share insights on how Videology has been redefining the standards for industrial-grade cameras and our roadmap to 2030.

Marc van den HeuvelIn the interview, “Videology’s Journey in Camera Innovation and Roadmap to 2030" Marc highlighted our company’s focus on customization, AI-enabled imaging solutions, and the pivotal role of collaboration with OEMs and system integrators worldwide.

From humble beginnings in Greenville, Rhode Island, to becoming a leading name in Eindhoven's high-tech community, in our 30th year of establishment, Videology has come a long way. Explore Marc’s reflections on our commitment to reliability, the breakthrough technologies shaping our products today, and the exciting future we envision for intelligent imaging solutions.

Videology's Journey in Camera Innovation and Roadmap to 2030

Industrial-grade cameras are becoming smaller, lighter and more advanced as the resolution of image sensors continues to increase. Above all, they are becoming even more intelligent. These embedded industrial video cameras have found their way into almost all areas of life – be it medical diagnostics, traffic management, aerospace, or defense applications. One name, in particular, has set the ultimate standard here: Videology Industrial-Grade Cameras with a focus on delivering image quality, reliability, longevity, and customization.

The company supplies a wide range of cameras and cooperates with OEMs and system integrators closely solving their complex imaging needs. “We have been a global leader in custom embedded cameras for almost 30 years. What started as an idea in Greenville, Rhode Island in the USA led to the establishment of the Dutch operations in the small town of Uden, five years later - which has developed into the leading developer and manufacturer of industrial-grade cameras eventually" says Marc van den Heuvel, Global Sales Manager at Videology. Marc has been with the company for almost 3 years, leading the sales operations and the international growth team.

"We target technology and industrial companies that integrate our products into their products and applications. Our customization-centric approach has been our hallmark, with OEM partnerships playing a crucial role in seamlessly integrating our technology across this wide range of applications” says Marc van den Heuvel.

Thinking Big in Eindhoven

Videology timeline

Founded in 1995, Videology has a team of talented individuals from different backgrounds, working across offices in the USA and Netherlands. "We embrace this diversity, which not only shapes our company culture but also enriches our relationships with customers, creating a space where fresh ideas and unique perspectives drive innovation."

2021 marked a milestone in the company’s history when the company was acquired by inTEST Corporation. Shortly after, Videology moved its European operations to the High Tech Campus, the former Philips site, in Eindhoven. "The move demonstrates our dedication to innovation and collaboration. We are now located in the ‘Silicon Valley of the Netherlands’, so to speak – close to a number of other top-class high-tech players,” emphasizes Marc van den Heuvel. “Our team consists of skilled engineers with expertise in imaging technology, camera hardware, electronics and software, working together to improve and innovate continuously.”

Imaging Solutions for Diverse Needs

Videology’s portfolio comprises of four major product groups. Its board level cameras are small, customized cameras with diverse interfaces and specifications. “The cameras are exclusively built for the customers’ needs. Customers ranging from those with high-volume needs for OEMs and system integrators to those working on more specialized projects in the global market" says Marc van den Heuvel.

There is also the zoom block camera segment, which combines optical zooming capabilities with autofocus functions. These cameras can be found in cranes, drones, and in the defense sector and can zoom in and out precisely.”

Another product group is the Photo ID cameras which are used majorly for access control and badging applications.

Modular edge AI cameras, such as the SCAiLX technology offered by Videology, certainly represent the latest camera developments. “At first, we had questions from customers about intelligent cameras. They are looking for solutions that would practically add a ‘brain’ to the camera. For such cases, we developed SCAiLX, to become the "eye" to capture visual data for vision AI applications on the Edge." says Marc van den Heuvel. “AI-powered image processing on the Edge involves breaking down images or videos into pixels, analyzing features like patterns and colors using deep learning, and delivering results such as predictions, classifications, or enhanced images.”

The Roadmap to 2030

“At Videology, we pride ourselves on listening closely to our customers,” shares Marc van den Heuvel. “We spend time with them, discussing their needs face-to-face to create fast, effective solutions. That’s a big part of our success.” The company takes a hands-on approach, supporting customers every step of the way and delivering tailor-made solutions built to last—some cameras are still in use for ten to fifteen years.

With a focus on miniature size, industrial quality, and long-term performance, Videology is already looking ahead to 2030. “There’s so much exciting innovation on the horizon—not just in visual technologies but with the integration of other sensors and AI,” Marc adds. “Every day, we’re growing and improving, taking thoughtful steps to expand our portfolio and deliver even better solutions.”
