Videology expands SCAiLX AI Edge Camera Platform lineup

As a global leader in the engineering and manufacturing of industrial-grade embedded video cameras, we are thrilled to announce the latest developments in our SCAiLX Edge AI modular platform. This expanded launch opens up a world of possibilities for AI-powered video analytics, providing you with modular cameras, adapters and output boards.

Our modular SCAiLX Edge AI Camera Platform now includes an SoM board for Edge Vision AI, a 2MP Global Shutter board level camera, various zoom block cameras, an LVDS-2-MIPI converter board, and Ethernet interface boards. All these product options are available for immediate order, ready to start transforming your AI and imaging capabilities.

The heart of the SCAiLX Platform: SoM board for Edge Vision AI 


We are thrilled to introduce the new 42x42 mm (1.65x1.65") SoM board developed for our SCAiLX Edge AI modular platform. The SCAILX-SOM-AI module is a universal interface board built on an NXP i.MX 8M Plus processor and designed with specific connectivity options for AI-based vision solutions.

The i.MX 8M Plus processors are designed to excel in artificial intelligence and vision applications. The powerful i.MX 8M Plus processor is based on the quad-core Arm® Cortex®-A53 processor. It runs at 1.6 GHz with an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that delivers up to 2.3 TOPS. 

This powerful vision processor helps move inference to the Edge, enabling real-time data processing and analysis performed on the device level. Edge AI also eliminates the need for constant internet connectivity for cloud access. 

We have designed this SoM processor board to have 2xMIPI-CSI input feeds enabling dual camera streaming with 1080p 60 fps simultaneously on both channels. Stereo vision applications with dual cameras enable applications with depth perception and distance recognition. We are going to cover application possibilities with dual-camera feeds in another post. 

For developers looking for even greater image clarity and detail, the platform also supports higher resolution camera modules up to 12 MP 30 fps.

The SCAiLX Board Level Camera - A 2MP Global Shutter MIPI camera

In response to market feedback, we have developed a new 2MP board camera with a global shutter specifically for our SCAiLX Edge AI modular platform.

The SCAILX-2GS234 camera features a 1/2.6” Onsemi AR0234 sensor with an active−pixel array of 1920 (H) x 1200 (V). The global shutter design is optimized for accurate and fast capture of moving scenes at 60 fps. 

The board has a small form factor of 42 x 42 x 7.15 mm fitting seamlessly with the other board dimensions of the SCAiLX platform. 

The MIPI video output interface of the camera feeds the SCAiLX platform with very clear, sharp digital images for AI processing directly.

Featuring an onboard Image Signal Processor (ISP) with full control, this camera has rich camera features beyond basic functionalities. Sharpness control, noise reduction, digital zoom/pan, sync, trigger and flash, mirror, flip, and lens shading correction are some of these features. The camera also has automatic control functions such as Auto-Exposure, Auto White-Balance and Auto-Gain.

Two camera board versions are available, with a color sensor SCAILX-2GS234-xC and a monochrome sensor SCAILX-2GS234-xM

Different lens mount options like pinhole, M-12, and CS are readily available for selection. 

The Ethernet interface board - PoE or DC

The SCAiLX Ethernet interface boards are built for streaming video and data communication between the intelligent camera and the host network. The board has an RGMII interface to the SCAILX-SOM-AI module via a FlexPCB cable. 

Both PoE and DC power optioned ethernet boards have a size of 42x42mm, which is the exact dimension of the other stacking modular boards of the SCAiLX platform. They support the common ethernet speeds of 10/100/1000 Mbps, Auto-Negotiation and Auto MDI-X.

The Ethernet board is powered over a standard Category 5e (CAT-5) ethernet cable using PoE technology (SCAILX-ETH-POE) or directly powered by 12V DC (SCAILX-ETH-DC). 

LVDS to MIPI converter board 

The LVDS to MIPI converter board interfaces between the SCAILX-SOM-AI board and all Videology Zoom Block cameras with LVDS output.

Moreover, the SCAILX-LVDS-2-MIPI board can now be used to make other block cameras from leading brands such as Sony and Tamron, Edge-AI ready. For block cameras with LVDS output and up to 2 MP resolution. 

The LVDS to MIPI converter board is designed to support single and dual LVDS channel conversion to MIPI CSI-2. This enables seamless interfacing with the MIPI CSI-2 port on the SCAILX SoM module, enhancing Edge AI integration capabilities with resolutions up to 1080p at 60fps.

Another key feature of the SCAILX-LVDS-2-MIPI is its automatic FPGA firmware download. When the SCAILX SoM module boots up, the necessary firmware is automatically loaded onto the interface board.
